Identification Cards
A photo identification card is available to Alberta residents who do not or cannot hold a valid Alberta operator’s licence.
Applicants must provide the following 5 types of identification in order to qualify for an ID card. A single document can be used to fulfill multiple requirements.
Note: An applicant that meets all requirements except the photo may still qualify for this service. Please take all applicable documents into a registry office for verification.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO NOTE
*SIN cards, Electronic Travel Authorizations, PR Visas, and immigrant Visas are not accepted.
* All permits must be valid for a minimum of the next 90 days. If it is not, proof that an extension has been applied for must be provided. Extension documents can be used to satisfy the legal presence portion only.
*All residency documents must be dated within 90 days prior to ID application.
* Minors can have their parent/legal guardian sign on their behalf for proof of Alberta residency and in place of the photo requirement
* The minimum age requirement is 12 years. Anyone under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by their legal guardian to apply for the ID card.
*The above is not an all inclusive list. All Albertans are welcome to bring the documentation in to an office to see if they are eligible for exemption processing.
