Identification Cards

A photo identification card is available to Alberta residents who do not or cannot hold a valid Alberta operator’s licence.

Applicants must provide the following types of identification:

  1.  Any one of the following: Canadian Birth Certificate, valid Canadian Passport, valid secure Indian Status Card, National Defense Card Citizenship Card, Work Permit or Study Permit.
  2. Plus proof of Alberta residence such as lease agreement, utility bill in their name, original bank statement, three months of pay stubs, or any official Government mail. All proof of residency cannot be dated more than 90 days prior to ID application.
  3. A third piece of general ID. It can be anything from the list above as well as a valid firearms licence, Alberta Health Care Card, or Correctional Services ID.

*Please note that SIN cards are not accepted.

The minimum age requirement is 12 years. Anyone under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by their legal guardian to apply for the ID card.
