Out Of Province Driver's Licence Exchange
REQUIREMENTS
You will need one document from each of the three categories
**Note: If you are exchanging a heavy commercial driver's licence (Class 1 or 2) from another Canadian jurisdiction, you will need a Driver's Medical completed by an Alberta doctor and must meet Alberta's MELT program requirements in addition to the documents listed below. **If you are exchanging a Class 4 licence, or have any medical conditions you will need a Driver's Medical completed by an Alberta doctor.
1. YOUR CURRENT DRIVERS LICENCE
- If you have lost the Drivers licence we will require a letter of confirmation from the province that issued the licence
2. CURRENT STATUS IN CANADA
BORN IN CANADA
- Canadian Birth Certificate
- Valid Canadian Passport
- Valid Secure Indian Status Card
- Nexus card showing citizenship in CAN
BORN OUTSIDE CANADA
- Work/Study/Visitor Permit
- Super Visa
- Record of Landing
- Citizenship Card or Certificate
- Permanent Residence Card
- Letter from IRCC/Refugee protection claimant document
3. PROOF OF RESIDENCY IN ALBERTA ( DATED WITHIN THE LAST 90 DAYS)
- Utility Bills
- Bank/Credit Card Statements
- Alberta Social Benefit Statements (AISH)
- Income Tax Assessment Summary
- Phone Bill
- Legal Lease/ Residential Tenancy Agreement (signed within the last 90 days)
- Mortgage documents (signed within the last 90 days)
- Employee Pay Stub with name, address, and date
- Written Confirmation from an Educational Institute in Alberta indicating Dependents are attending School full time
- Written Confirmation from an Employer; on company letterhead, with date, contact number, and signature, stating the employee's Alberta address. (Must be dated within 14 days)

Foreign Territories With Reciprocal Agreements
Alberta has Reciprocal Licencing Agreements with the following countries in addition to all Canadian jurisdictions and territories. The agreements apply to class 5 licences only (and class 6 in some cases). For all other classes you must pass the appropriate tests. Refer to the Government of Alberta License Exchange for details.
